What’s Q-Ride?

Q-Ride is a competency-based training and assessment program that aims to ensure participants fulfill a range of criteria and demonstrate an appropriate level of skill and proficiency as a motorbike rider.

The aim of Q-Ride is to boost education and awareness, with the ultimate aim to enhance road safety.

Demonstrate Your Good Enough To Ride Safely

Basically, Q-Ride is where you go with a registered Q-Ride trainer and train with then until you can show you’re good enough to ride unsupervised on the road.  You need to pass a whole range of competencies that demonstrate youre skill and will be safe on the road.

Queensland Transport, like you and me, don’t want any motorcyclists dying on the road.

We’ve all heard the stories of “When I was a lad all I did was ride into town and the local copper gave me my licence.”

By having you fulfill a set range of criteria - slow turns, slalom, emergency braking, etc - at least everyone will have essentially the same minimum level of skill.  And that level of skill is enough, in theory, to make you a safe motorcyclist.

Doesn’t always work out that way - you can’t legislate against morons doing 200 kms up the M1 for instance.

You Don’t Have To Do Q-Ride To Get A Motorbike Licence

You can now choose between Q-Ride training and assessment or the Queensland Transport Q-SAFE practical test as methods of obtaining your motorbike licence.

Q-Safe is the old way of getting your licence - you rock up, pay your money and take a practical driving test.

You pass or fail on the spot.  It’s a cheaper way to go, but if you don’t know how to ride a motorbike properly in the first place it makes a ton of sense to learn from a professional.
