Q-Ride - How, Where & Why

by Brendon on August 2, 2010

Howdy, this is a site to provide information for those looking to get their Q-Ride certification so they get their motorbike licence here in Queensland.

I’ll add to this site and take you through the steps I took to get Q-Ride certified.

Firstly you need your motorbike learner’s licence.

To get your learner’s licence for a motorbike you simply go to your nearest Queensland Transport (all over the place, I couldn’t find a list of the Queensland Transport centres on the official QT web site).

LAMS Bikes

Be aware that you can now ride LAMS approved bikes as a learner and, at the moment, for your first year (it’s called an RE licence).

To be eligible for a learner’s licence you must have held a car licence for at least 1 year.

  • Must be 18 years of age
  • Complete the application
  • Show suitable evidence of ID
  • pass eyesight test (not always done)
  • Declare you’re medically fit
  • Pay the written rules test
  • Pay the licence fee

Then you have to pass the written test (here are some practice ones).  You get 5 questions and you have to get 4 right.

The written test is really, really easy.  Super easy.  Do the practice ones and then get in and do the real thing.

You Have Your Learners - What’s Next

Congratulations, you have your motorbike learner’s licence.  What’s next?

Next is to find a Q-Ride training provider and give them a call.  They’ll have a chat and book you in.

Here’s our recommended Q-Ride providers.

More info coming soon.

P.S:  The info above can change at any time as Queensland Transport  change stuff on a regular basis just to confuse the hell out of everyone.
